In a world often clouded by despair, stories that illuminate the path to hope are all too rare. Jack Lugar, Media Arts professor at Anderson University, undertook the formidable task of translating such a narrative onto the silver screen with his feature film “This Train”.
This poignant tale, showcased at prestigious festivals including the Heartland Film Festival and the Golden State Film Festival, captures the essence of resilience and redemption amidst profound loss.
“Hellcat” an aging rockstar, returns home to Indiana following a tragic accident. He is shunned by most of his hometown and feels he would be better off dead until his encounter with a troubled boy, who helps him find a new perspective.
Central to the film's narrative is the compelling portrayal of the protagonist by AU alum, Ed Fry, whose raw vulnerability breathes life into the character's inner turmoil. Supported by a talented ensemble cast including AU Alumna Julia Barnett and Anderson native, Thomas Reger, each scene adds layers of depth to the story, capturing the complexities of human emotion with tenderness and honesty.
Other AU Alumni that played supporting roles or worked behind the scenes in the film included Tracy and Jonathan Williams, Roland VanHorn, Tim States, Benjy Gaither, Emily Lugar, Hannah Gross and Roger Gibson.
Filmed over the course of just 15 days and every scene taking place in Anderson, Indiana- Lugar invites audiences on a transformative journey of self-discovery and redemption.
“This Train” stands as a testament to the indomitable power of hope. It leaves an indelible mark on the heart, reminding us that even in the midst of tragedy, God walks with us, shining light amidst the darkness.
