February 25, 2024 dawned bright and sunny, as is common in Southern California and Ravens gathered for an afternoon of chatting, snacks and experiencing what is happening in the world of media and arts as it pertains to AU alumni.
Katie (Edwards) Hooten '96 hosted the event at Moving Picture Company in Culver City, CA. Katie is a VP at what was formerly known as "Technicolor Studios" and was gracious enough to give her fellow Ravens a taste of the movie industry. Several AU alumni shared clips from their works in the MPC screening room and picked up swag from Trent Palmer, Director of Alumni Relations at AU.
Jack Lugar, professor of Media Arts at Anderson University gave a presentation and a grand time was had by all. Below you can check out a short film that Trent Bruce and several alumni produced a few years ago the last time an event like this was held in California. Trent gives some insight into how the film came about as well. Read the background and then enjoy watching the short film!
"The making of the short film Itinerary was a unique experience that was full of nostalgia. Sarah Brown Carter and I had been meeting a few times over coffee about working together on a film project together. After meeting up we realized there are a lot of AU Alums living in Los Angeles and working in entertainment. Boom! Right then we had the idea to create a film by sourcing out each role to a fellow alum and we got pretty close to doing that. With everyone in their respective career path we had to get creative in how all of us could make this film a reality. Altogether from writing, meeting with cast & crew, rewriting, shooting the film and editing the film this project took about one year to make. The main goal was to showcase what AU Alums are doing in their field, reconnect with old friends and hopefully inspire someone along the way. We were thrilled to get to come back to AU Homecoming to premiere the short film, reconnect with old friends and share with current students. Although the Ravens that worked on this project came from different eras one thing is true, we are all Ravens. We hope you enjoy this film and thank you to everyone who made this possible."
