Pastor Ted Baker Tree Replanted

This particular tree holds a significant place in the heart of our campus community. It stands as a living memorial to Reverend Theodore (Ted) Baker, a cherished member of the AU family. Many may recall the small butterfly garden just outside the entrance to the Valley side of Olt Student Center. It was here that the Baker family, in loving memory of their father and longtime AU employee, Rev. Ted Baker, planted a tree and created a serene garden following his passing in 2010.

Sadly, the original tree planted in Rev. Ted Baker's honor had succumbed to disease and was taken down last spring. However, just this month, a small group came together to replant the tree. Not only was the tree replanted, but the opportunity was taken to renew the surrounding garden, breathing new life into a space filled with memories.

Rev. Ted Baker, an alumnus of AU ('72, SOT '76), dedicated years of service to our institution in various roles, including supervisor of the Physical Plant, University Bursar, and Director for the Annual Fund for the Development office. His impact and legacy continue to resonate within our community.

Those present at the gathering included Dr. Rebekah Baker, Ted's daughter, Mary Baker, Rev. Ted Baker's widow, and Dr. Leroy Quashie, a close friend of the family. President John Pistole and Dr. Brent Baker, VP of Development, spoke briefly to commemorate the occasion.
